Being a historian

the gift that keeps on making you want to kill yourself.

So they are working on a new Normandy Visitors Center. Have been for some time and the contract do design I went to History Associates. It was only a matter of time before I heard fro them I guess. But was it about SDD? Nope, they found that I happened to have the only known photo of Dennis Turner, one of the few sets of brothers in the cemetery, on my website. Can they please have that photo?

And I find out that Bando is not returning their emails, so I ventured to explain to them that many of us, who have worked very long and very hard documenting the war long before it was trendy, feel a bit put out to be now shoved to the back of the room, never invited to anything, unless it for us to give our work away, or to “help” someone that is getting paid to the research we originally did because it was the right thing to do.

So I am sure they now think I am a cranky old pain in the ass (I am), but much to my amazement they had not even been able ot find the famous photo of Bob Edlin (ha! I have a signed copy!) which if you have 10 minutes worth of experience in the archives is easy to find. So seeing as how Bob would have laughed at being ont heir wall, I sent them my scan of it.

Man, when did doing history stuff turn into what we know as Hollywoodproductionpleasegiveus?

I am two people!

When I get sick of OD, I flee to other areas of history. One of them is the ancient world, and coins (as they are small and take no space). Yesterday I awoke ot find someone posting under MY NAME! After a frantic worry about shills and crazy people, I find there is a guy in michigan with my same name- and of all things he has a small ww2 militaria collection!

He knew I was on the same board, but never mentioned it to me. Just fun. So much for meing very unique.
